RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Crews have nearly fully contained a
forest fire in southwest South Dakota that killed one firefighter
and injured four more.
The Coal Canyon Fire is 95 percent contained and remains stable
at about 5,200 acres, or eight square miles. Officials credit the
work Monday and Tuesday of more than 450 fire crew members.
Lightning sparked the blaze in the Black Hills last Thursday. It
killed 23-year-old firefighter Trampus Haskvitz of Hot Springs.
People packed his funeral on Tuesday in the city. Gov. Dennis
Daugaard was among those to pay respects.
Haskvitz was buried in a local cemetery.
