PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says South Dakota
truckers will temporarily be allowed to haul hay bales to other
states without getting the state permits normally needed for
oversize vehicles.
Daugaard has signed an executive order suspending the need for
oversize vehicle permits until Oct. 26 for trucks hauling hay to
other states.
Many southwestern states are short of livestock feed because of
extremely dry weather. State officials say the suspension of the
oversize truck permit will help truckers and South Dakota producers
get hay to those drought-stricken areas.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples says South Dakota's
move to ease trucking restrictions will help Texas ranchers who are
in desperate need of forage for their cattle.
