SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A county commissioner from Sioux Falls
is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for South Dakota's lone
seat in the U.S. House.
Minnehaha County Commissioner Jeff Barth planned to announce his
candidacy Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the main library in Sioux Falls. He
becomes the first Democrat to formally enter the race against
Republican Rep. Kristi Noem in 2012.
Barth has said he won't run if former Democratic Rep. Stephanie
Herseth Sandlin tries to regain the House seat. Noem defeated
Herseth Sandlin last year.
Barth also will hold announcement events in Rapid City on
Wednesday, in Brookings on Thursday and in Vermillion on Friday.
