Governor Seeking Scholarship Donations

     PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A state official says Gov. Dennis Daugaard
is seeking more donations to support a scholarship program aimed at
training more people for hard-to-fill jobs.
     Tony Venhuizen, policy and communications director for the governor,
says Daugaard will work with companies and other donors to get
additional money for the Dakota Corps Scholarship Program.
     The program was started by then-Gov. Mike Rounds in 2004 after
the Legislature refused to provide state money for it. The program
uses other sources of money to provide scholarships to students who
agree to work in certain occupations for five years after
graduating from college.
     The recipients get money to cover tuition and fees as they study
to become veterinarians, nurses, other health care workers and
teachers of music, foreign language, special education, math and
science.
