New Teacher Evaluation on Hold

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A new standard for teacher evaluations
in South Dakota is on hold after state lawmakers declined to
approve it.
The legislative rules committee on Tuesday told state Education
Department officials that they hadn't provided enough information.
The committee won't act on the matter for at least another month.
Sioux Falls Democratic Sen. Angie Buhl says legislators were
given only a paragraph of information about the evaluation program.
Legislators also called out education officials for being
unprepared and being unable to answer basic questions.
Deputy Education Secretary Mary Stadick-Smith said the
person with the information was out of the office and unavailable
to testify.
