Brookings police report a woman is out more than $3000 n a rental scam.
Lieutenant Derrick powers says the 23-year-old Brookings woman was
looking for rental property in Colorado and got into e-mail contact with
someone through Craig's List.
The supposed property owner requested a deposit and it looked like a
good deal so she sent a money order. There were then requests for
several more money orders with various reasons given.
The woman ended up sending eight money orders totaling more than
3-grand.
The money was sent to an address in the Philippines.
Powers says it once again points up the dangers of sending money to
someone you do not know. He says it's unlikely police we be able to do
anything to get the woman's money returned.
