HURON, S.D. (AP) - Officials expect a record-breaking crowd at
this year's South Dakota State Fair.
Manager Jerome Hertel says the weather was hot on Thursday's
opening day but attendance seemed to be on par with last year's
opening day. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a
cool-down over the weekend, with highs only in the mid-60s to
mid-70s.
Officials expect attendance over the fair's five-day run in Huron to
surpass last year's record of 177,700 people. Hertel says
attendance has increased 33 percent since 2006.
