Sheriff Acquitted

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - A judge acquitted a sheriff in South
Dakota of embezzling city and county items and listing them on
eBay.
A judge acquitted Douglas County Sheriff Troy Strid of an
embezzlement charge Thursday at the conclusion of a one-day trial.
Strid was charged with petty theft in the second degree for
allegedly embezzling public property.
The judge found the state did not provide sufficient evidence to
support the charge.
Strid was charged with the crime in April after a three-month
probe.
Investigators said Strid took items belonging to Douglas County
or the city of Delmont and had a friend list them on eBay. When the
items sold, the friend transferred the funds to an account
belonging to Strid's wife.
