A Brookings teen is killed in an early morning hit and run accident.

According to Police Chief Jeff Miller, it happened at about 2:30 Saturday morning at
the intersection of 6th St. and 22nd Avenue. Miller says the victim is 17-year-old
John Bennett.

Bennett's Honda Prelude was northbopund on 22nd Ave. when it was hit on the driver's
side by an eastbound Dodge Durango. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking for the driver of the Durango, who they believe to be Jose Jiminez
and who left the scene of the accident. He's described as a Hispanic male, in his early
20's with a goatee and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jiminez is asked to contact the
Brookings Police Department.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Brookings Police are investigating.

Bennett was a senior at Brookings High School. Miller says counselers and clergy will
will be available at the high school from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening for students,
parents and staff.
