FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Issues related to this year's Missouri
River flooding have put on hold a project to move the old Fort
Pierre train depot back home.
A group of residents had planned to move the depot this fall
from rural Faith to a site on U.S. Highway 83 in Fort Pierre. Group
spokesman Gary Grittner says that foundation work can't
be started because of too much groundwater at the site.
Grittner says waiting until next year also will mean more
volunteers able to help with the work. Many of the people who had
planned to help this fall have been busy with flood response and
recovery.
The group has raised more than $100,000 in money and materials
for the project, and is looking for more to help restore the
building.
