WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP) - Wind Cave National Park
will offer free tours on September 24 in celebration of National Public
Lands Day.
The strenuous half-mile tours will last one hour, 45 minutes. They'll
be led throughout the day, with the first leaving the visitor
center at 9 a.m. and the last leaving at 4:30 p.m.
Tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis, and
park officials are warning of potential for long wait times or
tours selling out.
Sturdy walking shoes and a light coat or sweater are
recommended.
Friends of Wind Cave National Park and park employees are also
planning to replant trees and unveil a bronze plaque recognizing
Stephen Mather, who was the first director of the National Park
Service.
