DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (AP) - Many residents of Dakota Dunes who
were forced by Missouri River flooding to leave their homes this
summer are moving back in, though some are being forced to wait.
Tony Simoni says that he won't be able to move back in
for several more weeks because of a high water table. He continues
to fight groundwater leaching into his basement. He says it's
frustrating, and when he finally gets to return for good it will
"be a happy day."
Many other residents have been busy over
the weekend moving furniture back into their homes. Homeowner Gene
Knudsen says 16 weeks away from home has been "a disaster in slow
motion."
About half of the community's 2,500 residents had to leave their
homes in early summer.
