Flood Disaster Recovery Center Closing in Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A flood disaster recovery center that has
been operating in South Dakota's capital city for more than a month
is closing on Friday.
The center at the Pierre Mall is staffed by both state and
federal officials who help flood victims apply for assistance. The
Federal Emergency Management Agency says the number of people using
the center has dropped off in recent weeks.
About 600 residents in Hughes and Stanley counties have been
approved for aid because of Missouri River flooding this summer,
and more than $1.7 million has been distributed. Flood victims have
until Oct. 24 to apply.
