PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Delta Airlines will end its
Pierre-Minneapolis route Nov. 20.
Pierre City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga made the announcement during Tuesday night's commission meeting.
Huizenga is the commission liaison to the Pierre Regional Airport.
Delta had announced in July that it would plan to discontinue
the route, citing lower passenger loads as one of the reasons.
Pierre city officials appealed, saying the route is important to
residents, businesses and state government.
But the U.S. Department of Transportation gave Delta permission
to leave the route last week.
Huizenga says Delta has told the city that the
Pierre-Minneapolis flight will continue for the next several weeks.
The airline will contact people who have already purchased tickets
for Nov. 20 or later about a refund or rerouting.
