CUSTER, S.D. (AP) - Custer State Park was holding its 46th
annual buffalo roundup on Monday.
The roundup began as a way to manage the buffalo in the park and
has developed into a tourist event. Last year, about 14,000 people
came to watch. A group of nine photographers has come from France this year to get shots of the action.
Activities began Sunday with an arts fair and a chili cook-off.
The park each November auctions off some of the buffalo to keep
the size of the herd in check. Up to 500 animals will be auctioned
on Nov. 19.
