A teen is killed in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on a city street in DeSmet.
According to the South Dakota Highway patrol, 16-year-old Zachary
Eichstadt of De Smet was one of two pedestrians hit late Friday by a
pickup truck that allegedly did not stop at a stop sign. The second
pedestrian was treated for minor injuries.
The Patrol says 28-year-old James Harris of Anoka, Minn., is accused
of driving the pickup. He's charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run,
and driving under the influence. In a brief court appearance Monday,
bond was set at $250,000. Harris is due back in court on October 4th.
The crash happened shortly before ten o'clock Friday night when the pickup
failed to stop at First Street and Calumet Avenue.
