Boating Bans Lifted

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the Coast Guard
has granted his request to end boating bans on the lower portions
of the Missouri and Big Sioux rivers in South Dakota. Both rivers
flooded this summer but have since receded.
On Monday, the Missouri River in the southeastern corner of
South Dakota was reopened, from Ponco State Park on the Nebraska
side of the river downstream to the Iowa-Nebraska border. The ban
also was lifted for the Big Sioux River from its confluence with
the Missouri upstream to Military Road in North Sioux City.
Boaters are still urged to use caution even though river flows
have decreased.
Separately, the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday
said the flood disaster recovery center in North Sioux City will
close at 7 p.m. Friday.
