RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A former South Dakota sheriff's deputy
has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for possessing and
manufacturing child pornography.
Authorities say 27-year-old William Wray had more than 17,000
images of child porn on his laptop computer. Prosecutor Scott
Roetzel called Wray a "big danger" to society.
Judge Mary Thorstenson said that while Wray might have used his
position as a Pennington County deputy to gain the trust of
families and children, he has expressed remorse and seems amenable
to treatment. He will be eligible for parole in 7 1/2 years.
Wray pleaded guilty in June to six counts of possessing,
manufacturing and distributing child porn. He apologized for his
actions during his sentencing on Monday.
