PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Department of Corrections
says two inmates have died in the past two days in the State
Penitentiary.
The DOC says 66-year-old John Krogman died Monday while
39-year-old Shane Hinman died Tuesday
Krogman was serving a 30-year sentence for first degree
manslaughter and a concurrent 15-year sentence for aggravated
assault out of Pennington County.
Hinman, who died at the minimum security unit, was paroled to
the community transition program in July. He was originally
sentenced for possession of a controlled substance, distribution of
a controlled substance and grand theft. All of the convictions were
from Minnehaha County.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating both
deaths, which is a standard procedure in the death of an inmate.
Autopsies will be conducted on both men.
