HURON, S.D. (AP) - The signature building of the old Huron
University Campus is being torn down this week as part of the
site's conversion into a park and aquatic center.
Bull dozers have been busy tearing down Voorhees Hall to make room for the $12
million project.
As an ode the old institution, designers plan to incorporate
parts of it into the water park. It will feature cornerstones of
various buildings and have picnic shelters named after places on
campus.
Resident Gene Schorzmann has been watching the project's
progress. He says he's sad to see the buildings go, but he's
optimistic about activity coming to the site and community.
The park is scheduled to open in 2013.
