SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Production of all types of wheat in South Dakota this year is down 15 percent from 2010, to just under 105 million bushels.
The Agriculture Department says in its annual small grains production report that South Dakota's staple winter wheat crop increased 5 percent over the year, to about 66.8 million bushels. But spring wheat production fell 36 percent and durum wheat production was down 65 percent.
Production of oats in South Dakota totaled 4.1 million bushels, down 45 percent over the year. Barley production rose 20 percent to 528,000 bushels.
