Tourism Down Due to Flooding

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota's tourism secretary says
flooding along the Missouri River probably led to weak tourist
numbers this past summer.
Jim Hagen says national media reports on the flooding may have
misled many potential visitors and scared many away. He says high
gasoline prices also likely contributed.
But officials say they are optimistic about the future prospects
for visitors flocking to South Dakota.
Black Hills tourism business leaders met with state tourism
officials Monday for an industry research and marketing meeting in
Rapid City.
Hagen says he hopes that new tactics being developed will bring
South Dakota and the Black Hills back into positive focus.
