The lawyer for a man accused in an Elkton kidnapping says his client
is schizophrenic and bipolar, suffers from hallucinations and hears
voices.

Twenty-six-year-old Pedro Ramiro Enriquez-Castillo has pleaded
not guilty to kidnapping and reckless driving in the September third
incident.

An Elkton woman was in her vehicle when another car forced her to
the side of the road.  A man got out, opened her car and took her
three-month old child.  The suspect fled to a nearby apartment building
but returned with the child about 15-minutes later and said he thought
the child was his nephew. The child was not injured.

Attorney Tim Hogan asked for a psychiatric examiner for
Enriquez-Castillo and requested a continuance of the November ninth
trial date.  Judge David Gienapp said he would take the request
for a psychiatric expert under advisement.

Enriquez-Castillo is being held at the Brookings County Jail on a
50-thousand dollar bond.
