Rapid City Already Over 2011 Snow Budget

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Rapid City is heading into the cold
weather months already over its 2011 budget for snow removal.
The city has spent its entire $1.17 million plowing budget, exceeding
the figure by more than $54,000 after last winter's heavy snowfall.
But Street Superintendent Don Brumbaugh says that barring a
harsh winter, the street division should have enough funds in other
areas of its budget that can be reallocated to pay for plowing and
deicing for the rest of the year.
Brumbaugh says crews are told to do what we need to do to make
the streets safe as fast as we can and then deal with the dollars
afterwards.
On average, plowing and deicing after a snowstorm can cost
anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000.
