Weather Stressing Crops, Cattle

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Warm, dry weather is boosting the
soybean and corn harvests in South Dakota, but field and grass
fires are also destroying crops in some parts of the state.
The Agriculture Department says cattle in some areas of the
state continue to show signs of respiratory problems because of the
dry, dusty conditions.
Soil moisture temperatures warmed several degrees in some spots
because of the above-average temperatures and dry conditions.
Soybeans are 73 percent harvested, ahead of 60 percent last
year. Ninety-six percent of corn is at the mature stage, with 18
percent harvested.
