RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say dozens of Bison skulls
have been discovered in South Dakota because of Missouri River
floodwaters.
Archeologists say some of the skulls could be 10,000 years old.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers workers discovered the skulls
downstream from Oahe Dam and are moving them to a research center
in Rapid City.
Assistant state archaeologist Michael Fosha says some skulls
bear the wider horns that signify a bison species that lived thousands of years
ago. He says others appear to be relatively modern.
Fosha says it's unclear how all the skulls ended up in one spot.
