YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - The new Sacred Heart Middle School is
honoring its former building by constructing its sign using
material from the 90-year-old structure.
The 24-foot-by-5-foot structure will be constructed almost
entirely out of material of the old school, which was demolished in
June.
Bricks, a cross and a stone sign are among the items being
recycled.
Yankton Catholic Community Development Director Barb Rezac says
she thinks people affiliated with the old building will find it
special.
Volunteers are pitching in for the project. Between the donated
material and labor, the school will save about $35,000 on the sign.
Work on the sign got under way this week after a small blessing
ceremony.
