ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Opening of the Northern Beef Packers plant
near Aberdeen has been delayed until December.
The plant had been expected to open in November but now has a
target date of Dec. 9.er
The new date was mentioned by South Dakota Agriculture Secretary
Walt Bones at a committee meeting with state legislators in Pierre
on Thursday. Bones says he had toured the plant last week and was
told by CEO David Palmer.
The $100 million Northern Beef plant will slaughter 1,500 cattle
per day and employ more than 600 workers when fully operational.
The land was secured for the plant in 2006. Construction had
stalled, but the project received new life when a group of Korean
investors took over in 2009.
