A Brookings woman is facing an aggravated assault charge after injuring
a man with a knife.

Police Lieutenant Derrick Powers says police were called to the hospital
emergency room at about 10:50 Saturday night. A 24-year-old Brookings
man was getting stitches on his hand after a confrontation with his
girlfriend at a residence on the 1700 block of Eighth Street.

The man says the two were arguing and it escalated to the point that the
woman came at him with a kitchen knife. He says she was jabbing the
knife towards him and as he was attempting to get it away, he was cut
on the hand.

The man left the scene and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
He was not seriously hurt.

The 21-year-old Brookings woman was arrested and charged with
aggravated assault.
