SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Robberies in Sioux Falls have reached a
record level with more than two months still to go in the year.
There have been 89 robberies in South Dakota's largest city so far this year,
eclipsing the record of 74 set in both 2007 and 2009. About half of
this year's robberies have targeted businesses.
Police spokesman Sam Clemens says most robberies are committed
by people who need money for drugs, or for bills. But he says
there's no way to say for sure whether robberies are up this year
because of the poor economy.
