South Dakota State University dedicates its updated its dairy
microbiology building and new dairy plant.

The building has undergone its first extensive renovation and
explansion in 51 years.

Around 250 people joined in the celebration today, hearing a
few key players to the building of the plant including State
Senator Larry Tidemann and SDSU President Chicoine.

Tidemann says it took four bills to make this a reality and the
new facility will create opportunities.  He says it took four bills in
the Legislature to get this done.

The Alfred Dairy Science building is named after Alfred Nef
and Alfred Gozenbach, two Swiss Immigrants who founded
Valley Queen Cheese Factory in Milbank who gave a donation
to the renovation.

The renovation added a manufacturing plant as well as remodeling
the existing dairy plant. The project added 17 thousand 900 square
feet, costing nine point three million dollars, including new equipment.
All but one million dollars was privately funded by dairy processors,
producers, suppliers, alumni and friends.
