Neighbor Dispute Turns Fatal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Two Sioux Falls neighbors whose dispute
turned fatal this weekend had called police more than a dozen times
to complain about each other in 2010.
Sioux Falls Police say they responded to 17 calls about noise
complaints, disorderly conduct or juvenile delinquency at the
addresses of the two men. One man, 29-year-old Peter Deng Mayen,
now stands charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday shooting
death of the other, 51-year-old Bruce Walters.
Mayen is jailed on $1 million cash bond.
Mayen's wife says that Walters had harassed her family for months,
hurling racist slurs at the Sudanese couple and their children. However,
neighbors say the harassment went both ways.
Police say the complaint calls were almost evenly divided: nine
to Mayen's home, and eight to Walters'.
