BHS FB…Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Alex Schultz completed 15 of 20 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Patriots to a 61-19 win over Brookings Monday in an 11AA quarterfinal football matchup in Sioux Falls.
Josh Kunzman had six catches for 176 yards, including an 83-yard strike just before halftime. Tight end Scott Mulder had two scoring receptions.
Lincoln capitalized on defensive stands, including one on a fourth-down conversion attempt, to take a 21-point lead after one quarter.
Nick Nagy had three catches for 65 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown, for the 6-5 Bobcats. Brycen Nelson added the other scores on runs of one and five yards.
Bobcat quarterbacks were 12 for 25 for 159 yards.
Lincoln ran 31 times for 190 yards – Brookings 36 times for 100 yards. The Patriots averaged 9-point-5 yards per offensive play, while Brookings averaged 4-point-2 yards.

SUMNER AWARD… South Dakota State University quarterback Austin Sumner received a national award by being named National Freshman of the Week by the Sports Network.
In the Jackrabbits' 43-36 double-overtime victory at Missouri State on Oct. 29, Sumner topped the 300-yard mark for the fourth time in five games, throwing for a career-high 377 yards and matching a career best with four touchdowns. The Brandon native completed 20-of-31 attempts, throwing touchdown passes of 5, 3, 80 and 25 yards. His 377 yards rank fourth-best in a single game by a Jackrabbit quarterback.
Sumner recently was added to the official watch list for the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in the Football Championship Subdivision. The award will be presented Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas, on the eve of the FCS Championship game.
SDSU VB… South Dakota State hosted former North Central Conference foe North Dakota on Monday for the first time since Nov. 7, 2003, a reunion that UND won 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.
Kaitlin Klingemann led the Jackrabbits with 10 kills in the loss, adding three block assists. Kelli Fiegen finished with eight kills, which gives her 990 for her career, leaving her just 10 shy of reaching the 1,000-kill milestone. Fiegen also finished with four block assists and a pair of solo blocks.
Shay Birath led the Jackrabbit defense with 22 digs, and passed Sarah Simet (1,233 digs from 2001-14) for 10th on the all-time digs list at SDSU with 1,246.
Annika Smed led the visitors with a match-high 14 kills and added 17 digs for the matches only double-double. Lisa Parlich added 13 andRonni Munkeby 10 in the win.
The Jackrabbits return to the road one final time thisseason this week, with matches at Southern Utah on Thursday and at Oral Roberts on Saturday.
OVER 70 BASEBALL…The Over 70 Rushmore Baseball Team successfully opened their World Series with a 13-4 win over the San Diego Mudcats.
Lee Goldammer,Phil Clements, and John Somerville pitched the win.
Howard Bich, Doug Stormo, and Kent Rolfing were all 4 for 5 at the plate. Ev Bradshaw and Clements were 2 for 5 and Phil Trooien, Bob Beattie, Jerry Kluess, Dale McElhany, Goldammer, and Dal Lavin all singled.
Kluess turned a double play on a botched infield fly rule by the Mudcats and Kluess, Trooien, and McElhany finished the game with a 6 - 4 - 3 twin killing.
SDSU BB TICKETS… Single-game tickets for the 2011-12 men's and women's basketball seasons at South Dakota State University go on sale Tuesday morning.
With the exception of the Jan. 12 men's game against the University of South Dakota and the Jan. 16 SDSU-USD women's game, single-game ticket prices are $13 for reserved seats and $12 for general admission. Tickets for the games against USD at Frost Arena are $20 for general admission — no more reserved seats are available for those contests.
Doubleheader tickets range from $18 to $25 for general admission and $20 to $25 for reserved seating.
A limited numer of season tickets remain, ranging from $225 to $320 per seat, plus a $50 Jackrabbit Club donation per seat.
Tickets can be purchased online, in person at the Jackrabbit Ticket Office or by calling 1-866-GO JACKS. The Jackrabbit Ticket Office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
BOBCAT BACKERS… The next Bobcat Backers social is set for this Monday, November 7, 7:00pm at the Brookings Elks Club.
Fall coaches will be on hand (coaches, remember you eat free) to give updates on their seasons.
This will be the only November social due to schedule conflicts. The fall season wrap-up and winter kick-off social is December 5.
