Law Makes Synthetic Marijuana Illegal to Smoke

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A product described as synthetic
marijuana remains on store shelves in South Dakota, but a state law
passed this year makes it a crime to consume it.
Synthetic marijuana, sometimes called spice, is marketed as potpourri or
incense.
State Sen. Joni Cutler of Sioux Falls says people need to know
that even though it comes off a shelf and is labeled for a
different use, synthetic marijuana is illegal to smoke.
A law that took effect July 1 makes it illegal to possess or
sell a substance for intoxication purposes. Another new law
classifies synthetic marijuana as a drug.
But some lawmakers say they may need to take another look at the
issue and try to get it off store shelves.
