Shelter for Homeless Vets Opens in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A new shelter in Sioux Falls is hoping
to help homeless veterans get back on their feet.
Volunteers of America opened the new shelter, located at Cliff
Avenue and 14th Street, to offer food, housing and job opportunities
to veterans who are living on the street. The Department of Veterans
Affairs has set a goal to end homelessness among veterans by 2015.
Veterans can also do laundry, take a shower and get online at
the shelter.
Volunteers of America Services coordinator Chris Nelson said
around 300 area veterans have been identified as homeless and
receive services at the local Veterans Administration.
The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the
shelter at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
