Lawmakers Restrain Man

FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Several South Dakota lawmakers are being credited
with restraining a Minnesota man accused of pulling a knife in a Fort Pierre bar.
The melee took place Friday night at the bar inside the AmericInn Lodge and
Suites. Lawmakers had gathered for a pheasant hunt to raise scholarship money
for travel to events sponsored by the American Legislative Exchange Council.
A man at the bar allegedly began acting erratically and grabbed Rep. Kristin
Conzet's arm. House Speaker Val Rausch intervened, after which the man
allegedly pulled a knife. Rep. David Lust convinced the man to sheath the knife.
Lust says"the melee was on" after that.
Stanley County sheriff's deputies arrested 41-year-old Mark Bardwell of
Zimmerman, Minn.
