Voters Approve Events Center

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Residents in South Dakota's largest
city have approved a measure to build a $115 million events center.
The plan allows money from an existing Sioux Falls city sales
tax to be used to help pay for the 12,000-seat center. According to
the city's vote tally Tuesday night, residents approved the measure
with 58 percent of the vote.
Mayor Mike Huether supported the controversial measure and said
late Tuesday that he was proud of the city's residents.
Supporters of the project said the center would energize the
economy and put the city on the national map for sports and
entertainment.
But project opponents said it wasn't the right time and that the
city should be focusing on areas other than entertainment.
