SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Supporters of a project to build a new
$115 million events center in Sioux Falls say they will take a
brief moment to celebrate before continuing with design and
construction plans.
Residents in South Dakota's largest city narrowly approved a
plan Tuesday to build the 12,000-seat center. The plan allows money
from an existing Sioux Falls city sales tax to be used to help pay
for the events center.
Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether supported the controversial
measure and said Wednesday that the city should take some time to
reflect and recognize what voters accomplished.
But he said the celebration will be short lived as officials
continue to work on the design, construction and financing plans.
Officials hope to break ground on the project next August and
open in 2014.
