MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Former Democratic presidential candidate
and U.S. Sen. George McGovern says the United States needs to
gather a consensus before making any decisions on how to handle
Iran.
McGovern spoke Monday at the annual McGovern Conference at
Dakota Wesleyan University. He made the statement in response to an
audience question about his opinion on Iran and the Middle East.
McGovern says the United States should use a multilateral
approach when dealing with Iran and should first gather support
from other countries.
Calling the 2003 Iraq invasion "inexcusable," McGovern says
the United States needs to stop going into the wrong countries.
McGovern, who was recently hospitalized for fatigue, says his
doctors have told him to cut down on his travel and avoid drinking
beer and wine.
