Beef Plant Delayed Again

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - The opening of a long-delayed beef packing
plant near Aberdeen is facing yet another delay.
Northern Beef Packers CEO David Palmer says the plant had been
expected to open in 2011 will now open later than Jan. 1. Palmer
would not give a specific date.
The $100 million plant will slaughter 1,500 cattle per day and
employ more than 600 workers when fully operational.
The land was secured for the plant in 2006. Construction had
stalled, but the project received new life when a group of Korean
investors took over in 2009.
Palmer says the opening is a matter of weeks, not years. He says
the important thing is that the plant is making progress.
