A routine traffic stop by Brookings police has an unusual outcome.
Lt. Derrick Powers says it happened shortly after 11:30 last night.
An officer stopped a car for running a red light on the 700 block of
Main Ave. South. The driver was brought back to the patrol car for
questioning.
At that point, the four passengers in the vehicle ran away. it
was determined the driver had been drinking and sobriety tests
were conducted.
Some 44-minutes into the stop, the driver revealed that two other
people were in the trunk of the car.
Those two 18-year-old females were cited for underage consumption.
Powers says the two were upset that the driver had given them up
but he says police would have eventually searched the trunk.
