One man is hurt Tuesday afternoon when his pickup crashes
into a town home at 2019 Arbor Ridge Road. It happened at
about 12:20 p.m.
According to Police Lt. Derrick Powers, 24-year-old Thomas
Caldwell of Estelline was not seriously injured in the crash.
Powers says Caldwell was at Zesto Drive-in when he suffered
a medical issue. It caused him to hit the accelerator. The pickup
went over two curbs, into and through the Shamrock parking
lot, into and out of the ditch, and across 12th Street. It then hit
and snapped off a large power pole, drove over a landscaping
rock and slammed into the town home. The home is not occupied.
Caldwell was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital and
held for observation.
Powers says they don't have an estimate but total damages will
likely run into the thousands of dollars.
