Ft. Pierre Official Testifying at Flood Hearing

FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Fort Pierre official who warned about
possible Missouri River flooding is preparing to testify before a
U.S. House committee on the impact this spring's flooding had on
small towns.
Public Works director Brad Lawrence says his
five-minute testimony before U.S. House Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Water Resources and
Environment on Wednesday will include observations on how the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers interacted with small town local
governments during the flooding.
Lawrence sent a series of emails to Washington, D.C.-based
American Water Works Association in February warning that higher
than normal snowpack amounts would lead to flooding.
Lawrence says he thinks he may be the only South Dakota official
testifying at the hearing.
