YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - Flood-weary residents are expressing dismay
about a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to bump up Missouri River
releases to flush sediment out of Lewis and Clark Lake.
About 200 people from as far away as Omaha
attended the Wednesday night meeting in which the corps discussed
its sediment study.
Yankton resident Bob Winter, whose home was flooded this summer,
suggested that the corps reconsider upping its releases to 176,000
cubic feet per second.
Corps hydrologic engineering branch chief John Remus says the
sediment study was not connected to this summer's flooding, and the
agency didn't have the opportunity to take advantage of the
historic releases to lower the lake.
