SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Tribes in the Dakotas are getting a
share of $15 million in federal money being doled out nationwide
for public transit programs.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says that with high
unemployment on reservations, reliable public transportation offers
a vital link to jobs and training centers.
In South Dakota, the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe is getting
$500,000, the Oglala Sioux about $345,000 and the Lower Brule Sioux
$250,000.
In North Dakota, Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates is getting
about $200,000. The college is the authorized transit provider for
the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, which straddles the North
Dakota-South Dakota border.
