YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - Authorities have identified the woman
killed in a mobile home fire in Yankton as 89-year-old Gladys
Merkwan.
Emergency responders pulled Merkwan from the smoke-filled
burning home at 1100 E. Eighth St. on Tuesday afternoon. Merkwan
was revived at the scene, but was pronounced dead after being
transported to a hospital.
Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles says neighbors who spotted
smoke called in the fire. The cause wasn't immediately determined.
