A Brookings man is arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Lt. Derrick Powers says it happened shortly before 11:30 Friday night
at Danny's Casino. Police received a report of a fight in progress. The
first officer at the scene saw two men pushing each other and he
attempted to break it up. The suspect resisted and punched the officer
in the face. There was a struggle and the two ended up on the floor. A
bartender assisted the officer and other police arrived.
The man was placed under arrest for simple assault and simple
assault of a law enforcement officer.
The police officer was checked out by ambulance personnel and
returned to duty.
The 44-year-old suspect was taken to jail.
