RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Rapid City woman whose daughter was
killed in December faces additional rape charges for allegedly
having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy - and officials
say one encounter might have occurred the same day her daughter was
fatally injured.
Twenty-eight-year-old April Solles was arrested Dec. 30 in the
complicated case. She initially was charged with three counts of
fourth-degree rape.
A Pennington County grand jury indicted Solles last week,
however, and added two counts of sexual contact and three counts of
statutory rape.
One of the encounters was allegedly Dec. 13 or Dec. 14. Solles'
daughter died in a Sioux Falls hospital Dec. 18 from an acute
blunt-force head injury sustained four days earlier. A 14-year-old
boy faces charges in juvenile court for the death.
