Gun Carry Bill Defeated

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota legislative committee has
killed a measure that would have allowed people to carry guns
without a special permit.
The House Judiciary Committee weighed the issue during a Friday
morning hearing.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Don Kopp of Rapid City, would have
abolished the requirement for a concealed weapons permit for people
who comply with other laws dealing with the possession and use of
handguns.
The measure would not have changed other South Dakota gun
restrictions. Convicted felons still wouldn't have been allowed to
have guns, and federally required background checks would still
have been required buy guns.
