SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Some South Dakota firms aren't happy
with the state's decision to award a $5 million worker recruiting
contract to Manpower Inc.
The contract recently announced by Gov. Dennis Daugaard calls
for the Milwaukee-based recruiter to find 1,000 out-of-state
workers in financial services, information technology, engineering
and manufacturing to move to South Dakota.
Some South Dakota agencies say they would have liked the
opportunity to bid on the contract. Key Staffing vice president
Doug Erickson says that he's not aware of any firms that even
knew about it.
Daugaard's policy adviser Kim Olson says the bid process
followed state law.
State legislators must approve the $5 million in spending. Some
say they're awaiting more information before reaching a decision.
